We got our super reader capes today. We are pretty sure we're better readers than yesterday! Please ask your child about their superpowers!
We will post pictures of your children's activities to help you get a little window into what is happening in fourth grade.

MLK Assembly
This is a really catch song about Dr. Martin Luther King. With some prompting, your kindergartener might even sing it for you! The video above is a quote from Dr. King's acceptance speech for his Nobel Peace Prize.
Will One Of These Kids Win A Nobel Prize One Day?
Today some students from SBHS and some older students from Chamberlin (including Oskar's big brother!) gave us a presentation to celebrate Martin Luther King's Birthday. We learned that Dr. King won the Nobel Peace Prize and we learned about some other people who won that prize too for doing work to help people all over the world.
We learned that there was even a Nobel Peace Prize Winner from Vermont! Many of your children were intrigued by the idea of winning a prize, especially one that comes with money! I'll be watching the papers to see if one day one of these kids becomes a Nobel Prize winner!
We will also have an assembly at the end of the day. Your children learned a quote from Dr. King that they MIGHT be able to repeat for you: "Peace is more precious than diamonds or silver or gold." We'll be talking more about peace in Room 4 next week and how we can contribute to peace in our classroom, our homes, and our community.

Model Reader
To help us get back into the swing of things, I told the kids that if I caught them reading during Readers' Workshop time, I would either take their picture to put on a poster showing "What Good Readers Do" or take a video to put up on our blog for parents and grandparents to see. If you look at this post and the next few posts you will see Kindergarten readers making good use of their precious reading time! If you're in the building and want to stop by, you can see our poster with pictures of your readers showing us what our reading time should look like.
Kindergarten Readers
Check out this video to see some awesome reading! These readers are using the pictures and the song to "read" this book.
More great readers!
These readers are re-telling a familiar story. Reading together makes it more fun AND your partner can help you if you get stuck!
We Are Thankful
Did you know there is research that shows thankful people are happier? In November we made this turkey of what we were thankful for.
Young Mathematician At Work!
Watch this to see Cavan playing "Which Bug Will Win". I am pretty sure that the facial expressions help him do the math!
