First Snow!

We went outside for extra recess yesterday during our first significant snowfall of the year.  After this, we had our Farm2School lesson and Bennett said, "This is the best hour ever!"  Here are a few pictures!

Our First Gig

We took 17 ukulele club members to Orchard School today.  We performed for Mrs. Antonioli's and Mrs. Wolcott's kindergarten classes then went to 3rd grade to play for Mr. Schmidt's class.  Your children were a huge hit!  Next week we head off to The Gazebo to play for some senior citizens.

Playing for third graders.

Your Children Are Computer Programmers!

Today your children programmed robots in Media Center with Mrs. Flickinger.  They loved it!  Please ask them about it, I am sure they can explain to you far better than I can what they did today.

Future Computer Programmers???

Chinese Jump Rope

Did you play with these when you were a kid?  I saw one at the store last weekend and snapped it up.  Your children have been using it at outdoor recess and during our quick breaks indoors.  They can use it in a small space and still move their bodies.  We are having fun with it.  They are cheap (I think I paid $4.00 for this one) and would make a great present if your family exchanges gifts at this time of year!

Being Critical Readers

Today we looked carefully at some other fifth graders' writing..  Your children used a checklist of what is expected in 5th grade writing and looked carefully at someone else's work.  They did an amazing job and were totally engaged.  After this, they then tried to be critical readers of their own work to improve their own pieces.
It is so much easier to find errors in someone else's  writing!!

He was supposed to be looking at the writing, NOT the camera!

Farm 2 School

We had Farm 2 School Halloween Week.  Your children made a dish with roasted golden beets, carrots, and a balsamic honey glaze.  They LOVED it!!
Feeling the new vegetable in the Mystery Box!

Master Beet Cutter!

Miss Meg used the induction burner to make the glaze.

An Afternoon of Board Games

Our school filled our hive again.  The fifth graders voted and chose an afternoon of board games as their reward.  We squeezed our academics in this morning, then got to play this afternoon.  Here are a few photos of your children "hard at play"!!
Headbandz! (this group was the LOUDEST!!!)

Playing 21.  I didn't see any gambling going on...

I was told I had to take a picture of these hands!

Trouble!  (I am talking about the game, not these three perfect children!)

Monopoly Junior seemed fun.

Farm 2 School

All classrooms at Chamberlin participate in Farm 2 School classes once per month.  This month your children actually got to cook!  Your kids are great about trying new things in this class. Everyone loved last week's creation.

Swiss Chard apparently makes them very happy!

Everyone made a "My Plate" drawing in our classroom when they weren't cooking with Miss Meg.
