Mercy Watson Day

We celebrated "Mercy Watson Day" yesterday.  Mercy is the main character in a series of books we read by Kate DiCamillo.  Here are a few photos of parts of our day.

Children performed mini puppet plays with Mercy Watson characters.

That is General Washington, he's a cat!

I am not sure, but I THINK these puppets are having a chase.  Mercy LOVES a good chase.

Trying on the "Mercy" hat!

Eating toast with a "great deal of butter".

This snack may have been the favorite for the year!

We used the books to copy some of our favorite character quotes.

We put our quotes up on posters for each character.  Mrs. Watson says things like, "Oh Dear" and she calls Mercy "My Darling, My Dear"

Field Day Part 2

I had too many photos for one post.  Here are a few more from yesterday's field day.

This girl was NOT afraid to get wet!

In this game, the children passed a sandwich bag full of water over each other's heads.

Oh, and the baggie was full of holes--so everyone got wet!

Mrs. Payson demonstrating what to do in the "Beach Relay Race"

In this game, students had to grab gems with their toes from the pool of water and put them in the green bowl.

This is super hard, unless you have very long, flexible toes!

Fred was an awesome grabber.  Great toes!

More water games...

this time they passes a wet TOWEL over their heads to the next person in line!

Field Day

In this game, children had to carry buckets of water to fill up a container.

The buckets were full of holes!

Many children got VERY wet!

Today we had our annual field day.  It was hot outside, but your children kept cool playing lots of water games.  Here are a few photos.

Playing Drip, Drip, Splash!

Tunnel Tag

A friend has to crawl under your "tunnel" to un-freeze you in this game.

Playing "Pass the Sponge"(over everyone's heads!)

Elephant and Piggie Day continued...

We didn't quite finish everything we wanted to yesterday. Today, we played a relay race game we call, "Is There A Bird on Your Head?" --inspired by an Elephant and Piggie book we read.

Walking VERY carefully.

Concentrating sooooo hard!

When the nest falls off your head, friends help to pick up the eggs and feathers.

This is soooo exciting!

Happy Elephant and Piggie Day

June 8th is Best Friends Day.  If you have a best friend, be sure to give them a call.  We celebrated this great day by celebrating Elephant and Piggie, two BEST FRIENDS.  If you are not familiar with these books, you might want to borrow some from the library this summer.  Elephant and Piggie are two best friends who help each other deal with problems big and small.  The books are by Mo Willems.  Here are a few photos from our day.

Q was very excited when he came in and saw the decorations!

Everyone is reading an Elephant and Piggie book.

We read the Thank You Book, then wrote about what we were thankful for.

Photo op !

Elephant made it into this picture with Piggie!
