We Are Changing the World

We started a new kind of writing today.  We call it "Change the World" writing.  Your children a sooooo  excited.  We thought of problems in our class or in our school that needed fixing and we wrote signs and letters to change the world through writing.  Here are a few examples from today's writers' workshop.
Please do not wreck Quincy's Legos (because it gets him frustrated!)

No pushing in line.

Please be kind.  Don't be mean.

Please walk in the hall.  Don't run.

No Being Mean in the Class

Stay tuned for more of our Change the World Writing!

Our Trip to Bread and Butter Farm

Dear Families,
Sami's family hosted us again at Bread and Butter Farm today.  I am happy to report that we had a much more beautiful day today than we had in the fall.  However, all that sunshine and walking around has me tired out, and your children were tired by the end of the day too.  We started our visit with a couple of songs from Mr. Chris, then started off on our adventures.

We saw the pigs (two of whom we saw in the fall as babies).  Let's just say that they have grown a BIT more than your children did this year--and they're pregnant and due to have babies soon.  We saw the dairy and beef cows--many of whom are also expecting soon.  We also visited the chickens and had to help corral an escaped chicken and send it back to be with the other chickens.

We had lunch at the farm and played a couple of games.  Bread and Butter Farm is so beautiful and we are so lucky to have Sami's family host us for two field trips at no cost.  Thanks Farmer Corie, Farmer Henry, Farmer Bekah and Mr. Chris!

Mr. Chris Came to Visit

Today Sami's dad, Mr. Chris came to visit.  He played the guitar AND the ukulele for us.  It was so much fun.  Here are a few photos of your children and Mr. Chris in action.

Jazz Hands!

Jump, Jump, Jump!

You can see that Mr. Chris is a SERIOUS guy!

Extra Play Today

Dear Families,
Mrs. Rogers hosted most of our class this morning for a bit so I could finish up some assessments with students in our room.  Here are some fun pictures of children at play in Mrs. Rogers' classroom.
Mmm.... dolls and their tiny, tiny stuff.  Looks like fun!

We don't have this in OUR classroom!

Reward for Greening Up

Our friend Naomi helped to clean up our city on Green-Up Day.  She recently got a prize for participating.  Here she is with her "Get Air" socks and voucher (I THINK for a trip to Get Air!)
A VERY long time ago I participated in the first every Green-Up Day in Vermont.  It is so nice to see that this great tradition continues 100 years later!  Well, maybe not 100 years later, but 1970 was a LONG time ago!!  What a great way for our children to learn about taking care of our environment.

Fun Run!

We had perfect weather for our Fun Run today!  It was cool, not too sunny, and we had LOTS of fun!  Thanks so much to the families who helped organize this event and to Quincy's, Jack's, and Naomi's moms and Abbey's grandpa for coming to help cheer us on!

Everyone participated and did a super job.  If you have pledge forms, please send them in next week.

Middle School Helpers

Today was Tuttlefest at FHTMS (our middle school).  It is a morning of community service for middle school students, then they return to have lunch and an afternoon of fun back at their school.  We had some students visit Chamberlin today.  They helped out at the Fun Run and some came to kindergarten to help out.  Here are some 7th grade boys reading with some of our students.  They were really impressed by our great readers!
