A Famous Author Came to Visit Us!

Ashley Wolff has written and illustrated more than sixty books for children.  She is the illustrator of the Miss Bindergarten series and the author/illustrator of the Baby Bear series.  We read many of her books over the last few weeks.  It was fun to meet her in person today.

She read a new book to us that has not even been published yet, and then did some beautiful artwork with your children's suggestions.  Here are a few photos.

This was a book she wrote to teach her son the months of the year.
Your children impressed her by knowing them already!!

A student in Mrs. Brown's class said, "You're pretty good at that."

Another student said, "You are way better than us."

Every illustrator signs their work!

Yoga

Today we had a yoga class as part of our Wellness Week.  Your children practiced poses including these:  star (they yelled, "I'm a star!" when making that one), moon, rock, and tree.  Here are a few fun pictures from today.
Waiting for our teacher, Ms. Kim to be ready for us.

Tree Pose

Airplane Pose is pretty tricky.

Valentine's Day

Wow, what a day!  Today we started off with a Valentine's Day Breakfast.  Thanks so much to the parents who sent items in or stayed to help us have such a calm breakfast.  Then we opened our valentines and played a game. THEN we made some Valentine's Day projects.  Here are a few pictures from today.
Eating our yummy breakfast.

Miss Erika made some delicious pancakes for us.

Fred and his mom made superhero masks for everyone.

We made some cute decorations.

These will be coming home soon, but right now they are decorating our hallway.

100th Day and More

What a great week in Room 4!  We celebrated our 100th Day and did lots of other fun things.  Here are a few photos for you to get a little window into what your child has been up to.

We were trying to change the direction of the ball going down the ramp.

This group was able to make a ball that was going DOWN change it's direction and go UP!

Do you think this group was able to change their ball's direction?

Counting on in math.  We start with the bigger number every time.

100th Day Parade!

This is more facial hair than we usually see in kindergarten!

We are all 100 Days Smarter!

Counting out our 100th Day Snack!

Very Cool Kids!

Playing Stop and Go on our 100th Day!

Counting and re-counting our collections.

Force and Motion

We started our force and motion unit this week.  Your children experiments with balls and ramps.  The balls were made of different materials, were different sizes and weights.  Questions this week that your children tried to answer were:  How can you make a ball go slower or faster?  and Which balls are slower, the heavy or the light ones?

Physical science is so much fun in kindergarten, because your children can learn so much just by playing around with the materials.  Here are a few pictures of your young scientists in action.

Mmmm.... will this make the ball go faster?

This group thought they could make the ball go slower by lowering their ramp.
