Heading West on the Oregon Trail and Studying?????

We have been playing a game simulating heading west on the Oregon Trail.  Your children each took the role of a pioneer and faced trials and tribulations along the way.  Some of your children were great at hunting antelope or buffalo along the way and some ran out of food.  One whole family was sick with cholera while some pioneers remained healthy for the entire trip.  Here are a few photos from our last day on the trail.  Students who got to Oregon City today had a little extra time to study with their friends.  I have included a few photos from our study session too!
This group was really into acting like people in the 1800's.

One student said, "I'm not even religious, they're teaching me how to pray!"
Understanding how people of different time periods lived and what they believed in is an important part of learning history.  (note:  We ARE in public school and praying was NOT part of this game--this particular group came up with this on their own!  They were really getting into character.)

Playing Jeopardy with Mrs. Poor to study.

These pioneers were so happy to reach Oregon City that they were dancing!!

Isaac served as quizmaster while this group was studying.

I think this is called "flossing" (I am sooo not up on what is cool or hip!).   This was a movement break during a Jeopardy game.

More flossing?

"I just can't stop!"
